Taking a break….

How do you get back on track when life pulls you away from your goal?

How I want to write….

I’m facing that question right now. Family concerns are holding most of my attention and my writing is suffering, both here and on my book-in-progress. I’m having to make some choices about where I spend my time and, to be honest, I don’t like choosing. I want to have it all. But there it is. I’ve decided to post on this blog when I can through the end of June. After that, I expect to be back on a regular basis.

… the reality

In preparation for the day I fully commit again, I decided to do some snooping into how other writers come back to the laptop to see if there might be some nugget of inspiration. It turns out, that topic has spawned a multitude of blog posts and articles.

Clearly, I’m not alone.

Some have one single piece of advice: set your butt in the chair and write. Period. Put your head down and work through the uncomfortable process of knocking off the cobwebs. Others suggest working on other tasks that are writing related, then move on to free writing before getting down to the work in progress. In other words, do whatever works for you, but don’t – under any circumstances – throw in the towel.

I have resolved to not give up, even though my present situation is making writing difficult. I will be posting on a regular basis again. For those of you who follow my blog, I haven’t given up. I’m on temporary leave.

See you all at the end of June!

  1. I understand completely. I can only write when I am out of town, away from home come on my phone LOL my daily distractions. However once I do that, I sit down and read what I’ve written already and get right into it. Unfortunately, Treks out of town only happened a few times a year. Yikes!

  2. I got sidetracked again but I wanted to add that when we get pulled away from writing, hopefully will have more to write about that! Don’t give up hope!
